CAD is a group of software applications designed for the use in geometric modeling, design and drafting of 2D and 3D models. A model is a representation of a set of objects, or entities, used to represent some real world thing. Models are used in engineering, for example when drafting building plans, as well as in the natural and social sciences. CAD applications are not just useful for drawings of technical designs, such as railway tracks or building drawings, but also for representing more abstract concepts.
The fundamental properties of a model are the entities and relations between them. Usually, models are hierarchical (parent-child relationships) but they can also be non-hierarchical. In a model, every entity has a unique identity, i.e. it has an identifier, and this identifier can be used to refer to it. In the example in the left image of the figure above, there is a unique identifier for each rectangle (in black), a unique identifier for the entire parent rectangle (in light grey), and a unique identifier for the entire drawing (in dark grey). Most often, there is a relationship between an entity and its parent. This can be a general relationship (e.g. parent to child, owning to owned), or a particular type of relationship such as containment (e.g. a room inside a house).
Autodesk product families
AutoCAD software applications are available for Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Android and as a web app for the web browser. Each version has a unique identity and shares some functionality with the other versions.

AutoLISP is a visual programming language that was originally developed for AutoCAD by Autodesk and was released in 1987. The language is built on top of a LISP dialect called Lisp Machine Lisp (LM-LISP). The language is still supported today by Autodesk.
AutoLISP provides several enhancements in the way AutoCAD programs are written. The main enhancement is the ability to specify variable values during program execution. Variables can be defined by the user, used in expressions and given default values in the source code.
Programs written in AutoLISP are called AutoLISP scripts. Although they are visual, they are still LISP programs. This allows AutoLISP scripts to be analyzed by the compiler, which provides many advantages. For example, it allows the compiler to see where loops are and to detect memory problems (e.g. a function over-writing itself).
As the name AutoLISP suggests, AutoLISP scripts can be run as macros from AutoCAD. This allows developers to automate routine tasks, such as resizing drawing items. Scripts may also call other macros or AutoLISP scripts.

Open AutoCAD, create a new drawing, name it Training material and then type in a title.
Click on the image tab, select PNG format and then click on the New icon.
Select the pre-existing layer (if not created by me) named “Silver Placeholder”
Click on the arrow icon next to the pull-down menu on the Layers panel and select New Layer
Double-click on the Layer named “Silver Placeholder”
Name the new layer “Tray”
Click on the top menu icon (File, Section, Subsection and all the way to object) and select Drawing Tools – Profile – Profile Boundary
In the new window, click on the “Tab Boundary” button
In the newly opened window, select the “Isometric” section, the drop-down menu near the top of the window and select Standard Conic
Click on the drop-down menu beside the “Standard Conic” option and select Conic
In the newly opened window, click on the arrow icon (next to the pull-down menu) and select “Add-points-to-segments”
Select the “Center of profile” option and drag the black arrow icon to the end of the center line
Double-click on the segment created by the “Add-points-to-segments” function
Select “Start”, “End”, “Center”, “Angle”, “Radius”, “Cross-over” and then select “Totally Conic” from the pull-down menu near the top of the window
Click on the new conic and then click on the “Select All” tab
Double-click on the “Totally Conic” segment and select Edit – Displace – Profile
In the new window, select the “Center of profile” option and drag the black arrow icon to the end of the center line
Drag the red line to the right
Select the “Remove” option
Double-click on the segment created by the “Remove” function
Select “Start”, “End”, “Center”, “Angle”, “Radius”, “Cross-over” and then select “Totally Conic
